As a woman in the tech industry, attending Discover Tectoria was an eye opening experience. Not only did I have the opportunity to explore the latest innovations and projects, but I also played a significant role as one of the event's organizers, marketers, and project managers. This dual perspective allowed me to witness firsthand how the event supported and empowered women in the tech field.

Discover Tectoria showcased over 75 tech companies, research projects, and community partners, shining a spotlight on Victoria's thriving tech scene. Our goal as organizers was to create an inclusive and diverse environment that provided equal opportunities for everyone. Through strategic planning and thoughtful curation, we ensured that women in tech were well-represented and celebrated throughout the event.

The Women and Allies in Tech Lounge, was a highlight of the event. Presented by Locelle, this dedicated space fostered networking and discussions among women in the industry. It served as a supportive hub where women could connect, share experiences, and empower each other. I was gratified to witness the connections and inspiration that bloomed within this space, as ideas were exchanged and new professional relationships were forged.

In addition to the lounge, we curated panel discussions that specifically addressed the challenges and triumphs of women in tech. Panels like "Women in Leadership – the Good, the Bad, and the Needed Change" and "How to be an Active Ally to Women and Minorities" sparked important conversations about gender equality and diversity in the tech industry. These discussions brought together both women and men who were passionate about creating a more inclusive and equitable environment.

VIATEC's event also emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent. We dedicated space to First Robotics teams, providing them with a platform to showcase their innovative projects. By exposing youth to the wonders of technology at an early age, we aimed to cultivate their interest and passion for the field.

Discover Tectoria honoured accomplishments of local companies and sparked inspiration for attendees, emphasizing the importance of a diverse and empowered tech industry. We love celebrating all of the women founders and companies who inspired us to start SparkHive!
